Hello, I’m Charlie. I’m a professional musician with years of experience performing across the UK, including festivals like Glastonbury and the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. I’ve even played on the flight deck an aircraft carrier in the Pacific Ocean, which was as hair raising as you could imagine.

Now, I channel that experience into teaching bass guitar and running Firebird Studios here in Bristol. My approach is grounded and practical: no gimmicks, just focused tuition that helps you make real progress. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your playing, we can work in 30-minute or hour-long sessions, whichever suits you best.

I believe a good bassist is the backbone of any band, and my lessons reflect that. I focus on solid technique, strong timing, and musicality—how to lock in with a drummer, build a groove, and support a song effectively. If you’re new to the instrument, we’ll start with the fundamentals and work at a pace that suits you. If you’re more advanced, we can explore slap technique, walking bass lines, improvisation, or preparing for performance.

One of the benefits of learning at Firebird Studios is that we’re an official RSL Awards examination centre. This means you can take your Rockschool exam in a familiar, comfortable environment—the very room where you’ve been practising. It’s a small thing, but it can make a real difference on the day.

The RSL syllabus is well-regarded for pop and rock, with grades from Entry Level to Grade 8. Achieving Grade 6 or above also contributes to UCAS points, which can be helpful for further education.

A Little More About Me

Alongside teaching, I perform, compose, and manage the studio. I’ve taught privately for many years and have worked with music services across Wiltshire, Ealing, Harrow, Hertfordshire, and Newham. I welcome students from 6 to 60+, and I hold a current DBS certificate for your peace of mind.

My aim is to help you become a confident, capable bassist—someone who plays with purpose and enjoyment. I keep the atmosphere supportive, but we’ll always aim for meaningful progress.
