We provide both private and small group drum lessons at Firebird Studios. We can help you learn the songs you’ve always wanted to play. The lessons are fun, informative and can range from 30 minutes to 1 hour, or longer if you have the stamina!
Rockschool grades
If you’re looking to work towards graded exams, then we recommend RSL Awards’ Rockschool program. It is the pre-eminent course for people studying Pop and Rock music. They range from Entry all the way to Grade 8 and can be counted towards your UCAS points once you reach grade 6 and beyond.
As an RSL Awards examination centre, you’ll be studying in the very place that you’ll take your exam. Hopefully lessening those exam nerves!

Meet the Teacher
AJ is a Professional Drummer and Educator in the Bristol area. Having spent his youth studying at a number of established institutes, AJ spends his time teaching and being active as a working musician in various music scenes.
As part of the Vic Firth Education Team he teaches over 80 students a week, which includes teaching at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). His educational product “The Drummer’s Odyssey” was released in 2017 and received a 4/5 star book review in the Uk’s leading drum magazine, ‘RHTYHM’.
Having honed his craft by playing in churches whilst growing up, and then gigging extensively as an adult, AJ has built a reputation as a regularly called upon musician. As a session player he has shared the stage with a number of Bristol’s solo artists, which includes headlining the Bristol 02 Academy with Makala Cheung.
AJ is endorsed by Vic Firth Drumsticks, Bosphorus Cymbals, Evans Drumheads, Prologix Practice Pads, Cympad and Cosmic Ears In-Ear Monitoring. He is passionate about music and committed to his work as a musician and an educator.
